Around 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events impacted the region, generating wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Widespread Destruction

Locals observed giant hailstones measuring up to 7 centimeters in particular locations. Weather authorities confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to address the widespread outages.

Victorian Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, around 1,000 households in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• The Werribee area - saw considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing - various emergency calls
• Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk expected across multiple regions of both regions.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
