The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:
- Every squad has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
