A man who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities a second time.

She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
