Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The pace bowler added to the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and required time off the field for further assessment "during the day".

The concluding match of the tour at the SCG starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, at the end of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
