A funding package that would conclude the record-setting government shutdown in US history is heading to the House of Representatives for a decisive ballot on midweek.

On the sixth week of the political impasse, representatives are returning to Washington to determine if they will endorse a upper chamber proposal that would finance federal agencies for the next eight weeks.

Majority party officials stated assurance the funding measure would pass through the House of Representatives, regardless of their slim advantage. But top Democrats vowed to oppose it.

"We're opening up our country," he stated on Tuesday at a Veterans Day event in the Virginia suburb. "Shouldn't have been shut down."

Impact of the Shutdown

The closure, which began on 1 October, has caused a government employees unpaid, stopped food stamps for those in financial need, and disrupted aviation for passengers ahead of the November celebration.

Majority party representatives brushed aside minority changes aiming to continue ending healthcare support - their key condition during the deadlock.

The chamber is expected to reconvene at the afternoon session (21:00 GMT) to hold one hour of debate on the legislation before a ballot.

Opposing View

House Democratic minority leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York pledged to oppose the proposal.

"We're strongly opposed as Democratic representatives to this irresponsible GOP attempt to persist in increasing the expensive lifestyle on working families," he told CNN.

The minority representative has voiced disappointment with Senate Democrats who sided with Republicans on Monday night to endorse the budget proposal.

Central Concerns

A central demand of minority members during the closure has been that the majority attach to the budget legislation a clause to extend government subsidies that make health insurance cheaper for millions of citizens.

But Republicans stayed united and would not move, accepting solely allow a vote in December on the insurance support, a proposal they had made previously.

And there is uncertainty that legislation will be approved by the Senate, while the Speaker has yet to commit a vote on the subsidies in the House.

Legislative Mathematics

Electoral Consequences

Neither party appears to have emerged politically unscathed from this legislative imbroglio.

Surveys suggest citizens feel Republicans shoulder slightly more of the blame, while Democrats were sharply divided by the brinkmanship.

And when the closure concludes, appropriators have only 60 days to prevent the following crisis.

Federal appropriations would next be due to expire on 30 January.
